Why India needs to become the DLT Playground - Sinha Santos, Founder Oix.Global

Image
Malta, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man - three countries that were on the fringe of technology till a few years ago are at the center of the biggest technological revolution of the day - Blockchain. I am back in Asia, and I reached Delhi despite the fog to meet some government officials to further the conversations that I have been having for the last year. On the sidelines, I met with a few technology leaders and picked their brains. The one thing we all were unanimous was the slow pace at which the government is moving towards technology adoption. Do not get me wrong, there is a lot of action going on with regards to Digital India, however, the edge is missing.  Read more :   http://bit.ly/2Nkrpw8

Hurricane Dorian has touched land and touched many lives in its path. This is a disaster at a scale that needs the society to come together and do something concrete to help those who have been affected. I was discussing the ways that unaffected citizen could lend a helping hand, and I found a very genuine concern raised. A friend of mine said that if we take away the management cost of the charity being sent, we will be able to service a lot many more people than we do currently. Read more

Blockchain in Government - an Insight by Sinha Santos, Founder Oix.Global

Image
I spoke on the topic "Blockchain in Government" a few months back in Mumbai. I specifically chose the subject as it is a hot topic of discussion. My interaction at various levels of governments in the few months preceding had given me a unique perspective. I frequently start the process by asking a few simple questions. These questions are the qualifiers to ascertain if Blockchain can be of any assistance. The first couple of questions are about the use and the source of the data - if multiple parties share the data and if multiple parties updated the data. Read more

The Expanding Footprint of Blockchain Economy

Image
Although we are still a capitalist world, socialist ideologies are taking a foothold, and I think that is a positive development. I have been closely associated with many business bodies and committees, having lived in California for the last decade, which looked at the social impact of technologies. Now that the hype around cryptocurrencies and ICOs have died down, we are witnessing the emergence of the real Blockchain economy. Read more

A Blockchain-Based Superweb of .gov Sites - Sinha Santos, Founder OiX.Global

Image
For an average internet surfer, the world wide web is a seamless flow of websites and information. Look closer, and you see many different layers that work connected, yet independent. The most simple example is how you have traditional websites and the Tor-based onion sites. In near future we will see a premium web network come up. This will be based in the Blockchain network. Not all websites will migrate to this or even need this. But, this will be the future that will drive real innovation in intellectual property rights. There will be a blockchain-based youtube alternative shortly. Read more

Blockchain in eGovernance by Sinha Santos, Founder OiX.Global

I have often talked about DLT and cryptocurrencies and my limited belief in actual adoption by governments, at this juncture of time. Yes, there are lots of pilots running, and yes, governments are posturing a lot. However, actual adoption is not happening. I am not trying to pain everything by the same brush. I do understand that governments across the globe have responded to this promising but unproven technology differently. Some governments are being apathetic; some are adopting a wait-and-watch approach, while some are creating regulatory sandboxes and sponsoring limited testing.  Read more

Across the world, there are people working two jobs to lead a normal life. It is probably safe to say that freelancing is providing many households with the extra income that they so desperately require. But with desperation, comes exploitation. The platforms favor the clients, not the freelancers, for the simple reason that the clients are the ones who are spending on the platform. Read more

Smart Cities Need Bolder Governments

Image
The way we live our lives has changed a lot over the last few decades. Had you told my father in 1960s, when he was a teenager, that he would be able to watch movies on demand, he would have laughed at you. Now, if you were to tell me 30 years ago when I was a teenager that my house will be controlled by voice and respond to my commands, I would have laughed at you. The same way that a teenager today will laugh at us if we told them that in future there will be no offices, just work desks that you could randomly sit at in an arena. Read more

In this new age economy, data is the biggest asset a company can own. If you think that Facebook is a half-trillion-dollar company because it has millions of users, think twice. Facebook is what it is because of the data being generated by those millions of users. Blockchain might be the nemesis of Facebook, only if it solves the problem of scalability and speed. It is time that millions of people around the world stopped working, unknowingly, for Facebook and started working for themselves. Read more
